| June Coffee Morning Our last Coffee Morning just before summer holidays was held at Paul Breeze’s beautiful penthouse. Father Bell from church St. Mary in San Roman spoke to us about Iris Connell, a 100 year old lady born at the mining town of El Callao. Iris is presently living at the church since she has no family of her own. She must have so many interesting stories to tell about how Venezuela looked like 100 years ago!! We also watched a DVD on the Queen of England and the Commonwealth. This organization is a free association of sovereign states comprising the United Kingdom and a number of its former dependencies. It amounts to 1.7 billion people: 50% Hindus, 25% Muslin and approx. 20% Christians and is eminently placed to address global issues. Democracy, Development and Diversity within the Commonwealth has been the Queen’s aim over the years. No other group has influenced the demise of the Apartheid in South Africa as the Commonwealth did. This group also fervently sought to combat racism in Rhodesia throughout the 70´s and 80´s which resulted in their independence. For those staying in Caracas during the summer and for new people in town, please join us at our July and August informal meetings.
