January Coffee Morning

The first coffee morning of the year was held at the house of Debbie Yanda.

Our guest speaker was BIG member Melodye Rooney. She gave a very interesting talk about candle making..
Candles were originally used as source of light, and for religious purposes.
Today they are decorative and help make a home more comfortable and cozy. Making your own candles is an exciting craft that is easy to get started with a few simple ingredients and some basic tools.
First candles were made from tallow, they burned poorly and smelled worse. Luckily wax or gel is used nowadays, scents and dyes are added. Wax is poured into special glass or tin containers for different shapes and sizes.

She also explained the science of the “floating candle” and how that was achieved. She did a great demonstration of how to use various containers, such as jars, cookie cutters or any other forms you may have.

We enjoyed immensely her teaching us her wisdom of candle making and she is willing to share her knowledge to any that are interested in making candles in the future.

The British and International Group is most Thankful for her presentation.
