October 2008 Coffee Morning The October Coffee Morning was kindly hosted by Charlene Avocato in her lovely, spacious home. Our guest speaker on this occasion was Ms. Aura Godoy from MUZO, who gave us a talk about diamonds and jewels – object of our dreams. For many centuries these precious stones have been the dream of any woman. Who does not remember when the “beloved prince” brought her that beautiful diamond ring asking her to become his wife? Their beauty and rarity and some unique properties have made diamonds one of the most valuable precious stones, allowing their owners to transport fortunes in the fist of their hands. Every diamond is unique; no two are alike and each stone loses on average more than half its original weight during cutting and polishing. They exist also in many colors, such as pink, blue, yellow, green among others. Purchasing a piece of diamond jewelry is an exhilarating and unique experience. When you buy it is absolutely necessary that you get a diamond certificate (diamond grading report), including the 4C's (cut, color, clarity and carat weight). The report should also describe the diamond shape, exact measurement and proportion as well as grade of polish and symmetry. This is to assure authenticity and quality of your diamond. In addition some insurance companies may require a grading report if you are planning to insure the diamond. Ms. Godoy also reminded us that besides being beautiful, diamonds are a great investment purchase – more so than any other precious stone. She gave us some impressive examples of how individual diamond purchases had appreciated over time. Her talk certainly illustrated that truly ‘diamonds are a girl’s best friend’....
