September 2008 Coffee Morning
The first BIG Coffee Morning after the summer break was held at the British Residence in Country Club. There was much catching up on news between members and friends. We would like to feel that even our new members recognised a few familiar faces following a welcome coffee morning for those new to Caracas hosted by Jennie the previous Friday! Nicky thanked the Ambassador for the use of the Residence, the Committee for their time and energy expended on behalf of BIG and the membership for their support of BIG events; the latter being essential to the continuing ability of BIG to provide support to a number of charities. Nicky mentioned that the September newsletter contained details and contacts for existing activity groups to which members could sign up and also expressed hope that a few additional groups would be up and running this session. Jennie outlined the activities of the Welcome Committee and her hope that communication would be maintained with all those with whom she had recently been in contact. She also announced the new activity of a monthly ‘drop-in’ restaurant lunch. Charlene gave details of the Silent Auction, BIG’s largest charity fund-raising event, and requested that everyone try and solicit contributions to the auction which will take place on 10th October. Diana spoke of the up-coming activities she was planning for members over the next couple of months and reminded everyone that the Scottish Ball was on November 15th. Betty provided an outline of the types and number of charities which BIG currently supports and gave details on the amount of support which we have been able to give. Tea and coffee was served, accompanied by a delicious range of home-baked items. People were then able to move inside and enjoy piano recitals by the highly accomplished girls from Hogar de Ninas Nuestra Senora de Guadaloupe whose talent never ceases to amaze.
